The book is finished. All that's left is packaging and marketing. The first will be done when Paul gives his "thumbs up" on the last digital proof. Ironically, the book will be available just a month shy of the 7th year anniversary of the crime. There's something so visceral about looking at the whole story neatly wrapped inside a book, as if the whole thing has been surgically removed and can sit on a shelf and collect dust. It's not that simple, of course. Our lives have been forever changed by this horrible crime but I like to think that some of those changes are for the better; that we're stronger, braver and appreciate true friendship and love so much more.
The book turned out differently from what we first envisioned. Without the documents, reports, transcripts, photos and support from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and the Williamson County District Attorney's Office we would never have been able to hear the voices of the officers and investigators to add their stories or to share the voices of the "San Antonio Five" as the Round Rock Leader dubbed them. Walking Between The Raindrops has come a long way from the two-person memoir it started out to be. True Crime-oir? You decide. It will be available on Amazon and the CreateSpace e-store by the end of January around the world. Details will be in the next blog post. Here's a look at the new cover - this one for print issues:
It's been a long journey and we are home.
